Information for Evacuees

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) understands this is a difficult time for those affected by the wildfires. The safety and well-being of evacuees remain our top priority. We are working closely with local leaders, emergency response teams and support organizations to ensure you have the resources and information you need.

1. Evacuee Support Guidelines

  • Support from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) or other organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross (CRC), a Tribal Council or another organization, is provided at the community’s request.
  • The SPSA cannot provide support to an evacuee if they are already receiving support from another organization as arranged by the community.  However, the SPSA will ensure that all residents who evacuate will receive support if they are in need, whether it is from the SPSA or the organization their community has selected to provide that support.
  • For evacuees who have registered on the Sask Evac App, and when the community has requested SPSA assistance, you should receive information from your community leadership on the location of the registration centre and site support (i.e. hotel) upon evacuation.
    • If you have not received information about evacuation procedures or how to receive emergency support such as food and shelter, or are having trouble accessing supports, please call the SPSA at 1-855-559-5502 and the SPSA will assess needs as soon as possible.
  • For evacuees who have registered for the Sask Evac App – and when the community has NOT requested SPSA assistance - please contact your community leadership for instructions on how and where receive support.
  • For evacuees who have NOT registered for the Sask Evac App and are unsure about their community’s evacuation status, please reach out to your community leadership for the latest information or call 1-855-559-5502 and the SPSA can assist in providing information on support where the SPSA has not been requested.
  • If evacuees are receiving support from an organization other than the SPSA, evacuees are asked to continue working with that organization to receive support.
  • For the latest information on evacuations, visit the Sask Evac Web Application. Please note that evacuation decisions are made by local community officials. If a community does not have pre-arranged support in place, the SPSA may step in to assist.

Note: It is important for evacuees to stay registered with the organization that supports their community.

    2. Funding and Support

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has identified all eligible communities whose residents (18 years of age or over as of June 20, 2025) will receive, as announced by the Government of Saskatchewan, $500 in emergency funding to those displaced during the emergency.
  • Please note that some communities will administer payments themselves and other communities will be assisted by the SPSA.
  • Residents will be asked for their name, email, address to confirm they are from the impacted communities.
  • Starting on June 18, funds will begin to be transferred to communities through an agreed-to schedule with community leadership.
  • In consultation with the communities, more information will be provided regarding the timing and distribution of funds to eligible residents.
The SPSA is providing retractive food security support (i.e., groceries, etc.) for those who have registered with the SPSA. The amount provided to the head of household is $40 per day, plus $20 for each household member, with a maximum daily household amount of $200 per day.
    • If you received support through an SPSA hotel or CRC – you are not eligible for the food security support, but you will be eligible for the $500 emergency funding.
  • Eligible residents must call 1-855-559-5502 to confirm registration and assess needs for retroactive payment.
  • Timing of distribution will differ based on communities.
More information will be provided shortly. Your patience is appreciated. We are striving to ensure that all eligible residents will receive their payments as soon as possible.

    6. SaskAlert

SaskAlert is the best source of information for an emergency happening in your area. Find out more information, check out our SaskAlert page.

    7. Emergency and Community Support

The SPSA’s Emergency and Community Support (ECS) is a program which is intended to meet the urgent, basic needs of Saskatchewan residents who have been displaced from their homes due to a disaster such as flooding or a forest fire, or any incident that forces people out of their homes. The local authority can work with the SPSA to request provincial assistance.

ECS is designed to be used for larger, more complex events where local response alone will not be adequate.

    8. Provincial Disaster Assistance Program

The Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) supports residents, small businesses, agricultural operations, First Nations, non-profits, and communities in recovering from natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, plow winds, and other severe weather events.

To apply for assistance through the PDAP, your local authority (such as a city, town, First Nation, village, or rural municipality) must first apply for designation and assistance and be approved for support. Contact your local authority’s office for details.

Though not a replacement for private insurance, PDAP may help cover the cost of essential uninsurable losses, cleanup, repairs, and temporary relocation.

PDAP only assists in restoring property to its pre-disaster condition and does not cover all losses or any insurable items, even if insurance was purchased.
